Preview: Lancashire Lightning v Durham - RLODC

Haseeb Hameed has been named in a 15-man Lancashire Lightning squad for their final Royal London One-Day Cup match against Durham at Emirates Old Trafford.

The teenage opening batsman has never played in a limited-overs match for the First Team, but he could be in line to make his debut given that Lancashire are unable to qualify for the quarter-finals of the 50-over competition, following their defeat to Worcestershire yesterday.

A four-wicket defeat at New Road put Lancashire both of the North Group, with Ashley Giles's side crashing out of both one-day competitions in the space of 48 hours. The exit in the 50-over competition was followed swiftly by the news that George Edwards, Gavin Griffiths and Luis Reece will all be released by Lancashire at the end of the season, with the match against Durham offering Lancashire the opportunity to trial other players in a dead rubber fixture.

Lancashire were unable to defend 268 after captain Steven Croft hit 78 for the visitors, with Tom Fell recording his first century in any format since making his comeback from chemotherapy treatment for two bouts of testicular cancer. His unbeaten 116 guided the Rapids to a comfortable victory by four wickets with 14 balls to spare, with defeat spelling the end of the One-Day Cup campaign for Lancashire.

Durham are still firmly involved in the 50-over format following a 15-run victory against Yorkshire yesterday, with Scott Borthwick hitting 84 during Durham's innings of 281/7. Tim Bresnan threatened to take the White Rose home with a brilliant 91, but Durham held their nerve to record their fourth victory in seven matches.

When the sides met recently in the Twenty20 competition, Lancashire edged a four-run victory in a tense encounter at Chester-le-Street, but Durham have won both of the County Championship matches this season, including a thrilling meeting at Southport last month. A win for Durham would secure a place in the quarter-finals, as well as a home tie, which means Durham will travel to Manchester with all the incentive they need to compound Lancashire's recent misery in white-ball cricket.

Durham could be without captain Paul Collingwood after he suffered a calf injury in the victory against Yorkshire, while opening batsman Mark Stoneman has recently announced that he will be leaving Durham to join Surrey next season. Wicketkeeper Phil Mustard is on loan at Gloucestershire until the end of the season, with Stuart Poynter taking the gloves in his absence.
