Buttler out for rest of the season for Lancashire

Lancashire and England wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler is likely to miss the rest of the domestic season due to a thumb injury that has kept him sidelined since the start of July.

Buttler sustained the injury in a record-breaking victory against Worcestershire in the NatWest T20 Blast campaign earlier this season, scoring Lancashire's fastest Twenty20 half-century in 20 balls to help Ashley Giles' side to win by seven wickets at New Road.

After breaking his thumb stood up to the bowling of Luis Reece, Buttler then opened the batting with Alviro Petersen and hit seven fours and four sixes to guide Lancashire to their best ever powerplay score of 98/1.

The 25-year-old is expected to miss the rest of Lancashire's season, although he may be available to play for England in the ODI series against Pakistan, which starts on 24 August.

Director of Cricket, Giles, said: "We will be lucky to see him in Lancashire colours again. The England one-day series could well be his return to cricket, unfortunately for us.

"We'd love to have him back as soon as possible, but I'm not sure that is going to be the case," Giles added.

Buttler, who is responsible for hitting all three of England's fastest centuries in One-Day Internationals, is therefore highly likely to miss the Roses match starting on Saturday and a total of four other matches in Lancashire's four-day schedule before the end of the county season.

Nottinghamshire and England Under-19 wicketkeeper Tom Moores remains at the club after announcing that he was extending his loan spell at Old Trafford in the extended absence of Alex Davies, who is recovering from surgery.
