Scotland Vs. Lancashire YB40.

Lancashire receive qualification boost.

Tom Smith battles through the rain in his
innings of 42 - after taking figures of 2-30.
Despite the rather bleak weather in Glasgow, Lancashire were able to snatch a seven wicket victory over the Scottish Saltires with 28 balls to spare on the Duckworth Lewis method.

With numerous breaks for rain, it was hard for both sides to find any sort of rhythm, but the hosts score of 145 all out always looked to be insufficient, even with the loss of four overs to their innings.

A revised target of 125 due to the poor weather made the visitors task even simpler, with little risk needing to be taken in the process of chasing such a meagre total.

Richard Berrington and Scotland captain Preston Mommsen (31) proved to be the only batsmen capable of resisting the superior quality of Lancashire, the former top-scoring with 35.

Scotland's innings lacked firepower, with their number eleven, Calvin Burnett, playing the most sumptuous of strokes, mounting a speedy 25 from 17 as he hit the only six of the innings.

The Lancashire attack shared the spoils, but Kabir Ali ended as the pick of the bowlers, taking 3-33, closing the innings with the wicket of Burnett. Lancashire skipper Glen Chapple claimed the early wicket of Hamish Gardiner, before he returned to dismiss Majid Haq, giving him figures of 2-29.

Tom Smith, who led Lancashire's chase with an unbeaten 42 from 63 deliveries, also claimed 2-30, giving him a strong case for the man of the match award.

Scotland were also responsible for their own downfall, affording Steven Croft two run-outs in quick succession, as Moneeb Iqbal and Matthew Cross fell cheaply.

The rain continued to linger, as the visitors sought to face the minimum requirement of ten overs, but once they had passed this stage the match plodded to an inevitable result.

Stephen Moore gave Lancashire's innings a quick start, but the opener fell for just 18 when he was caught by Gordon Goudie.

A partnership worth 58 between Smith and Ashwell Prince, who hit an unbeaten 80 versus Derbyshire in Lancashire's last victory, took out a sizeable chunk of the required total, with the South-African scoring 36 from just 31 balls.

The match was ended in an anti-climactic manner, as Callum MacLeod bowled a wide to give Lancashire their sixth win of the campaign and a further boost to their chances of qualifying from Group B.
