Lancashire tail dominate second day.
Lancashire captain Glen Chapple smashed 63 before he claimed his fiftieth wicket championship wicket. |
The hosts mounted a monolithic total of 421 thanks to their tail-end batsmen who added 125 more to Lancashire's overnight score, putting them well and truly in the driving seat.
A record-breaking last-wicket stand between Chapple and Kerrigan raised 114 for the final wicket, beating the previous highest partnership for the tenth wicket against Hampshire.
Chapple (63), who has recently announced that he will be playing for Lancashire next season, led by example as captain, accelerating to fifty from just 51 balls in an innings which saw the veteran hit 5 fours and 2 sixes.
On the back of an indifferent debut for England, Kerrigan (62) silenced his critics with an equally impressive half-century, his first ever, scoring 7 fours and 2 sixes as he did so, before he claimed
3-48 to put the visitors under the cosh.

Hogg was the first of Lancashire's bowlers to reach the milestone of 50 wickets, removing Hampshire's first four batsmen as he claimed his third five-wicket-haul of the season, finishing with figures of 5-39.
Amidst a calamitous effort from Hampshire, which saw them reduced to 92-5, James Vince proved to be the only ray of hope, as the England Lions batsman made the first century of the match, but he was the last Hampshire wicket to fall before Lancashire opted not to enforce the follow-on.
Closing on 39-0, Paul Horton (23) and Luis Reece (7) extended the hosts lead further to 250 giving them a commanding position in the match, as they hope to clinch promotion with a win in this match.
