Kerrigan makes test debut in Ashes finale.

Simon Kerrigan receives a standing ovation after taking
7 for 63 against Northants.
Simon Kerrigan and Chris Woakes were both handed their England caps before the start of the final Ashes test match at the Oval, respectively becoming the 656th and 657th players to achieve this recognition.

Having already taken 47 wickets in Division Two of the County Championship at an average of 20.23, Kerrigan was initially snapped-up by the England Lions set-up, before joining his fellow Lancastrian James Anderson in the squad for today's test match.

With Australia winning the toss and batting first, Kerrigan and Woakes are both likely to feature on this first day. With both players renowned for their bowling, they will surely be put to the test by an Oval pitch that often favours batting.

As the match develops however the likes of Kerrigan and of course Graeme Swann will hope to take full advantage of the foot holes created by the fast bowlers from both sides.

Kerrigan has taken five wickets in an innings on as many occasions in the Championship campaign and even a ten-wicket-haul for the match versus Northamptonshire, including his best figures of the season (7-63).

Kerrigan prepares for his first test match delivery to Shane Watson.
Kerrigan's first spell to Shane Watson
went for 28 runs in just 2 overs.
