Agathangelou has confidence in Lancs squad.

Agathangelou made 17 for Lancashire today.
It was a day Lancashire will be hoping to forget after they slumped to 77-6, but Lancashire all-rounder, Andrea Agathangelou, is optimistic about the rest of the match and indeed the season, due to the depth of the squad.

Conditions were in favour of the bowling side, but there were also some indifferent shots, leaving the visiting side in a difficult position, with 46 runs required to avoid the follow-on.

Agathangelou said: “We lost quick wickets, but as it stands Lancashire are in a decent position. Team spirit is good and luckily for us we can bat all they way down to eleven, so we need to lose a couple more wickets before we are in trouble.“

Nottinghamshire appear to have done well to score 272 based on the efforts of their opponents, but the Lancashire all-rounder believes it is a pitch with something in it for both sides.

“He’s a good bowler Jimmy and it’s nice to have him in the side.  It is a good cricket wicket. If you bowl well on it then it does offer some assistance for the bowlers. There is a little bit of bounce from one end, but if you bat really well, as Samit showed yesterday, then you can get stuck in and score runs on it.”

Agathangelou made 17 for the visitors today, which proved to be one of the more resistant efforts from the Lancashire top order after they capitulated against the Nottinghamshire seam bowlers.

“All I try to do is forget about the situation of the game and just play my game and ultimately that is going to be the best way for me to play and it went well for me today.

“It would have been nice if I could have kicked on a little bit further. I had just started getting in and once you face those first few balls and you get a start you are kicking yourself when you get out.”

Agathangelou believes that his position as an all-rounder will help him to maintain his role in the first eleven, but he is also hopeful that he can relish the responsibility of batting at number three for Lancashire.

“I was happy to be given the opportunity, I love batting at number three. In terms of the squad everyone is playing well at the minute. It is more difficult than you can imagine, with the caliber of player and everyone is playing well at the moment.

“You’ve got Brown and Crofty as batters that have missed out and they have been hitting the ball absolutely beautifully in the nets. We also have a handful of bowlers that haven’t even travelled down, who are bowling incredibly well.

“Lancashire are in a good place right now, everyone is playing well, so there is a lot of competition for places and I am happy to be in the side."

Lancashire’s were boosted by the presence of England International, James Anderson, who continued his fine form at Trent Bridge with another five-wicket-haul, but were without frontline seamers Glen Chapple and Kyle Hogg due to injury.

“I wasn’t even aware of their injuries leading in to the game. Kyle went for a scan on his calf, but I think they have just been rested as a precaution. From what I gather it is to ensure that they are fit for the rest of the season, rather than risk them doing more damage.

“Jarvis has been bowling incredibly well in the nets and I fell like it doesn’t matter so much who you play or what team you are up against when everyone is aiming to do a good job. Kabir is also in good form as we saw today and so it is a bit of a coin toss to see who makes the squad.”
