Procter
century leads Lancs in Bristol.
Luke Procter scored his maiden first-class century, as
Lancashire closed on 292-7 against Gloucestershire, as they come ever-closer to
clinching the Division Two title.
The
Lancashire all-rounder top-scored with 106 and shared a 159-run stand with Tom
Smith (88*), as the visitors recovered from 38-3.
Karl
Brown added just three to his overnight score of 20 before he was caught behind
by Gareth Roderick and opener, Luis Reece (35), failed to make an eighth consecutive
fifty, playing-on to David Payne.
In a
wicketless afternoon session, Procter and Smith frustrated the hosts, who have
nothing more than pride to play for given their position in the middle of the
table.
Procter
was the first to reach fifty, his coming from 115 balls, and Smith soon
followed in 128 deliveries, with both batsmen striking eight boundaries on
their way.
All eyes
were on Procter as he passed his previous best score of 89 versus Sussex in
2011 and he continued to play with confidence, passing three-figures for the
first time from 208 balls.
After his
dismissal, courtesy of Will Gidman (4-58) runs proved difficult to come by, but
Lancashire were able to earn themselves two batting bonus points.
With
Northamptonshire failing to claim full bonus points from their fixture with
Kent, the visitors will have set their sights on the trophy before they take a
trip to Canterbury next week.
Well done to Procter. Much deserved ton.
