Lancashire and Nottinghamshire share points from Blackpool washout

Alviro Petersen (73*) and Luke Procter (63*) both hit confident half-centuries before persistent rain forced Lancashire Lightning's One-Day Cup encounter with Nottinghamshire Outlaws at Blackpool to be abandoned.

The pair shared an unbroken partnership worth 151 runs for the second wicket, setting a new record for the highest second-wicket stand in a List A match at Stanley Park, as Lancashire progressed to 157/1 after 33 overs.

When the players left the field at 1pm, the hosts had made good progress with the bat after being inserted by Nottinghamshire, losing Tom Smith for a 15-ball duck when he was bowled by Harry Gurney (1-19) at 6/1 in the fifth over. Initial progress was circumspect, with Lancashire's first boundary coming in the seventh over of the innings, but Procter backed up his half-century against Northamptonshire Steelbacks with another superb knock alongside the South-African veteran.

Procter brought up the fifty-partnership in 67 deliveries when he lofted Luke Fletcher down the ground for the only maximum of the day and the hosts reached 100 when Petersen hit visiting captain, Dan Christian, for successive boundaries on his way to a 69-ball fifty. Procter soon reached the same milestone, hitting three boundaries on top of his earlier six, as he went to his half-century in 68 deliveries.

Light rain drifted over the ground just before 1 o'clock and, despite the best efforts of the groundstaff, the weather proved to have the final say, as the sides shared a point apiece. Lancashire's next 50-over match is at home to Yorkshire Vikings on Wednesday at Emirates Old Trafford.
