Rain halts Sussex victory bid.
Just 8.4 overs were possible on the final day of Lancashire's clash with Sussex, saving the hosts from the possibility of defeat after the visitors declared with an overnight lead of 323 runs.
Lancashire were set the daunting total of 324 runs, but were only able to reach 19-0 before the match was called a draw, with the infamous Manchester weather having the final say.
Rain had been lingering around Emirates Old Trafford throughout the final day of Lancashire and Sussex's fourth LV County Championship match of the season and eventually forced the visitors into a declaration after they were unable to make a brisk addition to their overnight score of 216-5.
Matt Machan was left unbeaten on 44, needing just two more runs to make the highest contribution of the innings, before the call was made to try and force a result out of the match.
But Lancashire were able to reach close of play unscathed, with openers Paul Horton (14*) and Luis Reece (3*) surviving nearly ten overs before the match was abandoned.
Points: Lancashire 8pts, Sussex 10pts
Man of the match: Michael Yardy (139&45) was Sussex's top-scorer in both innings and, had the match been allowed to progress further, his runs would have been crucial. In the absence of Ed Joyce the former Sussex skipper showed a revitalised temperament at the crease and appeared to be batting on a different wicket to must other batsmen in the match.
