Derbyshire encounter washed-out.
Just three overs were bowled at the County Ground today before the rain, that had lingered prior to the start of play, became turmoil. Derbyshire finished on 12-0, but their efforts were muted by the weather that suspended play for the rest of the day.
Lancashire were defeated by Durham in their Yorkshire Bank 40 opener last week, but for Derbyshire this was scheduled to be their first match of the campaign and they will be subsequently frustrated by the days result.
The toss, which was initially delayed by the adverse weather, was won by Lancashire's captain Simon Katich who elected to field first - a decision that was surely influenced by the poor conditions.
The players warmed up and stepped on to the field, hoping to embark on a lengthy days play, but like most YB40 games on this drizzly day, the match ended without a result.
Chesney Hughes and Shiv Chanderpaul successfully faced the Lancashire bowlers off for short amount of time that was managed, as Kyle Hogg and Oliver Newby finished the match wicketless.
Lancashire next match in this campaign, and indeed any format, will be played a week today against Surrey at Old Trafford, where Gary Keedy will return to face his old colleagues and, hopefully, the weather will improve.
Derbyshire 1pt, Lancashire 1pt
