not out to guide Hampshire to victory.

Michael Carberry led the Hampshire Royals to a comprehensive nine-wicket victory over Lancashire at the Ageas Bowl in the Yorkshire Bank 40 day-night encounter. His knock of 150 not out ensured that the hosts strolled to a comfortable victory with six overs left in the innings.

Lancashire gave themselves a reasonable total of 244-6 after being put into bat by Hampshire captain Jimmy Adams, who supported the man of the match with a score of 66 in an unbeaten stand worth 173.

Once again, Lancashire's batting came into question, as they found themselves 29-2 at an early stage. Ashwell Prince's impressive innings of 100 was, in retrospect, overshadowed by Carberry, but this solitary effort gave the visitors a competitive total. Karl Brown aided the Lancashire cause, achieving 44 following his score of 80 versus Surrey.

Wayne White (27*) and Gareth Cross (36) added 59 runs, but the visitors score appeared to be under par and the formidable Hampshire batting lineup would prove to be unforgiving.

James Vince managed 25 before he swept to Karl Brown on the square-leg boundary, as Kyle Hogg claimed the first and only wicket of the innings. But by this stage Hampshire realised that their opponents had made the wicket look tough to score on, when in actuality it was a batters paradise.

At times Lancashire's bowling was wayward and short, but Carberry in particular demonstrated how to score quickly as he hit eighteen fours and five sixes to take him to his impressive total.

Lancashire failed to score enough runs having been put in but their attempts to defend the chase were minimal and they were deservedly beaten.

The two teams start a Championship match tomorrow morning and it is fair to say that if Hampshire bat half as well as they did this evening, then Lancashire should be worried.
