bowler
Debut: 2013
Kyle Jarvis
took a bold move at an early stage in his career when he chose to retire from
international cricket. He initially signed for Lancashire on a three-year deal,
extending his services for another three seasons after becoming the county’s
frontline seamer.
The Zimbabwean
paceman struggled against Division One opposition in his first season with the
county, but he returned the following season a new man. He claimed 62 scalps at
an average of 24 in the second division in the 2015 summer and any doubts of
him being unable to replicate his form in the top flight were put to bed.
Jarvis was,
again, the club’s leading wicket-taker in red-ball cricket with 51 victims,
helping Lancashire to climb to the top of the table with his early-season form
alongside James Anderson and Neil Wagner.
Across the
2015 and 16 seasons, Jarvis collected six five-wicket hauls and continued to surprise
people with his ability to provide useful lower-order runs.
With
Lancashire struggling against Surrey at The Oval, he hit 47 batting at No.10
after the visitors had stumbled to 108/6. Earlier that summer he shared a partnership
worth exactly 100 runs with Alex Davies against Derbyshire.
Although he
only contributed 17 runs, he batted for more than an hour alongside the
wicketkeeper, before claiming 5-13 in a devastating nine-over spell to complete
a 250-run victory.
Jarvis put
in a string of strong performances that season, with Australian pacemen Peter
Siddle and James Faulkner for company at various stages of the campaign. His
wickets secured promotion back to Division One in 2015 and the following summer
ensured Lancashire avoided a third successive relegation.
His exploits
with the new ball were recognised when he was named the Championship Player of
the Season and he remains a key asset for the Red Rose, even with Anderson
becoming increasingly available at Old Trafford.
