Preview: Durham v Lancashire - Specsavers CC

Lancashire have named a 12-man squad for their four-day trip to Durham, as the Red Rose County aim to continue their superb start to life in Division One of the County Championship.

After completing an innings and 94-run victory against Hampshire at Old Trafford earlier this week, Ashley Giles's side will be hoping to extend their unbeaten and successful run without the aid of James Anderson, who is tied up with international duties in the upcoming series against Sri Lanka.

One of Tom Bailey and Saqib Mahmood is expected to take his place, with plenty of additional international-quality bowlers at Lancashire's disposal, even in Anderson's absence. The Hampshire win came courtesy of a number of key performances, although the standout contributor was Luke Procter.

The Oldham all rounder recorded a career-best 137 in Lancashire's first and only innings, taking three wickets in Hampshire's first-innings collapse, as the visitors were skittled for 109, a position they failed to recover from. It was then Simon Kerrigan who turned heads, as he took five wickets on the final day to seal a vital win for Lancashire, one that temporarily sent them top of the table.

Lancashire are currently in second place, one point behind rivals Yorkshire, although the Red Rose do have a game in hand over most other teams in the division, as do their upcoming opponents. Durham, meanwhile, are seventh in the Division One table, having drawn all three of their games so far this season.

With three County Championship successes in the last eight seasons, Durham will know that they have a reputation to defend. A strong seam attack, boasting the likes of Graham Onions and Chris Rushworth - who claimed 148 wickets between them in four-day cricket last season - make them a deadly opponent, particularly at home.

Lancashire's last Championship visit to Chester-le-Street saw a maiden century for Jos Buttler for Lancashire in a rare four-day appearance from the England superstar, but the Red Rose went on to lose the game by 27 runs. In the reverse fixture, an even tighter margin separated the two teams, as Tom Smith and number eleven Kerrigan guided Lancashire to a tense one-wicket victory, with two balls to spare at Old Trafford.

Lancashire 12-man squad: Steven Croft (c), Tom Bailey, Karl Brown, Alex Davies (wk), Haseeb Hameed, Kyle Jarvis, Simon Kerrigan, Liam Livingstone, Saqib Mahmood, Alviro Petersen, Luke Procter, Neil Wagner.
