Rain salvages draw for Lancashire.

For the second game in a row, the final day of Lancashire's championship match was washed out by rain as they managed to avoid defeat against Somerset at Old Trafford.

In Lancashire's previous four day fixture away at Yorkshire, the Red Rose outfit were on course for a potentially successful fourth day, but on this occasion the rain saved them from the onslaught of Somerset, who needed seven more wickets to earn their third win of the campaign.

The hosts had closed on 95-3 in their second innings after they were forced to follow-on by Somerset and with a deficit of 122 runs to overturn, the visitors will have fancied their chances for victory.

Lancashire's fourth draw in five matches leaves them in eighth place with a 35 point lead over Northamptonshire. Meanwhile, Somerset will feel aggrieved that they were denied the opportunity to convert their superior position into a win which would have put them top of the table.

Man of the match: Contrary to Lancashire's indifferent performance with the bat, this was a wicket with the potential for run-scoring. Alviro Petersen's 155 was the stand out performance in this game and his 193-run stand with Nick Compton (91) put the match beyond Lancashire's control.
