Preview of the opposition:
Having finished bottom of division one last season, Worcestershire will want to make this season count. They are certainly one of the strongest outfits in the second division and will be competing for promotion. The overseas signing of Thilan Samaraweera is very promising, bringing a great deal of experience to a young side. On the flip side, the older players in the current squad are set to give them their best chance for promotion and such players include Daryl Mitchell and Alan Richardson. The consistence of Gareth Andrew with bat and ball will also be vital. As a bowling unit they have also got a lot of potential and Richardson is likely to compete for the top wicket taker in the division. Worcestershire have, like many counties, suffered a great deal from losing the talent they have produced. Gareth Batty, Steven Davies and of course Stephen Moore have all left the club in past years, but this winter, they lost perhaps one of their most significant players, in Vikram Solanki, who has moved on to Surrey.
Key Player:
Although the weather may have already settled this tie, the chances of Alan Richardson's fast bowling making some kind of impact are still very high. In the early stages of the season, the seam movement can be unpredictable making him a real threat. The toss will be an interesting moment tomorrow morning and will be a strong indication of how fearful both sides are of this movement on the first day.
