Preview: Somerset vs Lancashire - Friendly

James Anderson is part of a 14-man Lancashire squad that will travel to Taunton Vale for a three-day friendly against Somerset starting on Monday.

The Red Rose county start their preparation for first division cricket on home soil with a visit to the West Country, followed by another three-day friendly against Cambridge MCCU at Fenner's.

Promoted from Division Two with Surrey last summer, Lancashire are hoping to avoid successive relegations, with a visit to another first division side who will be considered as relegation candidates in 2016.

A visit to Dubai allowed Lancashire to shake off any winter cobwebs, with Ashley Giles' side enjoying strong performances against rivals Yorkshire and the UAE national side. Anderson is expected to be involved in Lancashire's first three four-day matches, with their Division One campaign starting against Nottinghamshire on April 17.

Lancashire returned from their pre-season tour to Dubai last week.

The early season form of Liam Livingstone, Luis Reece and Karl Brown have all been promising for Lancashire. Somerset, meanwhile, have been busy with a plethora of preseason fixtures hosted in England, taking on Gloucestershire, Worcestershire and most recently Glamorgan to warm up for the season ahead.

Lancashire 14-man squad: James Anderson, Tom Bailey, Karl Brown, Nathan Buck, Jordan Clark, Steven Croft, Alex Davies, Haseeb Hameed, Kyle Jarvis, Simon Kerrigan, Liam Livingstone, Stephen Parry, Luke Procter, Luis Reece.

Former captain Tom Smith is absent, as he continues to recover from the back injury which forced him to miss the majority of 2015. Smith was in action during the tour to Dubai, but is rested for this friendly, while overseas four-day signing, Neil Wagner, is also not included in the squad.
